Every year, we start mapping out summer plans by January (sometimes sooner—don’t judge!). There’s always a classic event we want to revisit plus a cool new one to add to the bucket list. Maybe it’s a fresh camping spot, a new local microbrew fest, or a running event that gives us the excuse to buy those neon running shorts. Trust me: in the land of Sasquatch legends, you need all the flashy flair you can get.

PNW Tip: If you’re a fellow dog-lover, look for campgrounds and trails that are friendly to furry companions. The PNW is generally dog-friendly, but not every site is created equal. And, as always, check whether you’ll need a Discover Pass or a Northwest Forest Pass—nobody wants a ticket cutting into their s’mores budget.

The Enchantments

For the seriously brave (or downright “crazy” according to some), The Enchantments near Leavenworth deliver 18–20 miles of breathtaking alpine scenery. Many hardy souls tackle it in one day by leaving a car at one end of the trail and starting before the sun comes up from the other side. If you’d rather not become Bigfoot bait—or if you’re a normal human being who wants to sleep—camping overnight is also an option (permits required). CrossFit folks seem to love this challenge, but don’t let that scare you away—just remember to train, plan, and maybe bring a friend who can carry you back if needed.

Wallace Falls

If you prefer a gentler hike (with fewer cryptid encounters), Wallace Falls is a family-friendly trek showcasing a breathtaking waterfall. It’s a straightforward route with gorgeous viewpoints, perfect for selfies or doggy glamour shots. Just be sure to arrive early—this popular spot can turn into a parking-lot war zone if you show up late on a sunny Saturday. Get there early!

Lake 22

Lake 22 offers a moderate day hike that ends in a picturesque lake framed by towering cliffs and lush forest. It’s a chance to fill your Insta feed with jaw-dropping shots. Watch out for slick spots; mud and tree roots can trip you up if you’re too busy snapping selfies.

Heather Lake

This gem is close to Lake 22, making it a handy bonus if you’re in the area and still have some spring in your step. Heather Lake is smaller and often less crowded, serving up calm waters and an amphitheater of evergreens. It’s like stumbling into a Bob Ross painting—minus the talking trees.

PNW Tip: Always check trail updates and weather conditions on WTA or AllTrails before setting off, and absolutely do not leave valuables in your car. Nobody wants to come back from a blissful hike to find a smashed window.

Summer Festivals: Food, Fun, and the Unexpected

With sunshine comes a frenzy of festivals around here. Think farmers markets, microbrew fests, running events, and more bacon and eggs than your brunch dreams can handle.

Yes, we love coffee (thanks to that big chain that shall not be named), but we also have microbreweries, wineries, and distilleries galore.
